Welcome to the NYSCHAP Virtual
Herd Page. To
become certified, all veterinarians must complete a herd plan for one of
following herds. We have created two herds that are different in size and
facilities. You are welcome to choose the herd that would most fit the
situations of the clients with which you will be preparing plans.
However, feel free to look at or create a plan for both herds. For the
herd you choose there are a number of questionable management practices.
You have probably observed some of these practices on the farms you work
with.
Your assignment is to identify the risks for entry and
amplification of disease, as well as the quality of food products leaving
the farm. Using the NYSCHAP forms develop a set of farm-specific best
management practices to decrease the risk of disease and create a herd
plan.
Doe Farm (small) - tie stall facility; purebred herd
of 75 milking cows; milked 2x/day, 19,500 RHA.
Loe Farm (large) - free stall facility mixed herd
of 300 milking cows; milked 2x/day, 17,500 RHA
Good luck.
